Army of Anyone – "Goodbye"

Army of Anyone

Few bands do I get truly excited about, but I gotta tell ya – a few months ago, with the announcement of Filter’s lead singer (Richard Patrick) joining the bass and lead guitarists of Stone Temple Pilots (Robert and Dean DeLeo) to create a new band, my interest was immediately sparked. The project, dubbed Army of Anyone, has recently released its first single entitled “Goodbye”. I can safely say that the song vigorously met my expectations.

“Goodbye” wastes no time getting down-and-dirty, opening with a loud combination of guitar and drums and, soon after, Richard Patrick’s strong vocals. But what’s this? He’s not screaming, as I’m used to in Filter – no, he’s singing! And it’s not just the quiet kind of singing I’ve grown accustomed to, like in Filter’s “Take a Picture” – it’s a strong singing that combines both harmony and power.

The Brothers DeLeo do an excellent job of keeping the music interesting all the way through, nicely mixing power chords with rhythm, while drummer Ray Luzier pounds the drums like nobody’s business. Dean DeLeo’s solo in the middle of the song is great, but I was most impressed with Luzier’s drumming around the 3:10 mark. I hadn’t realized what in incredible drummer this guy is until now, but he is truly awesome.

If this song is any indication, the upcoming Army of Anyone album is going to impress. Listen to the song for yourself (unfortunately, it’s on AOL – I couldn’t find it anywhere else yet). Also, be sure to check out Army of Anyone’s official site and keep your speakers on for a gentle acoustic tune.

  1. I have to admit the song was quite dissappointing… sounds like every other b-side rock song ever made… voice isnt that great… the problem is… instead of worrying about writing a good song.. and using the instraments to accent the song, they made a song of very little lyrical value and added big powercords and called it a single… its not unique, not clever, and not imaginative… its boring… If that is their first single then they have very little to offer as a band… they sound about as bad as Velvet Revolvers unispired debut album… which I have to say didnt merit a repeat listen… and yeah I liked STP.. and I like some Filter.. I give it a D.

  2. To each his own. :) I happen to like Velvet Revolver’s debut, but I don’t anticipate Army of Anyone sounding too much like it save that they’re both hard rock bands. Just depends on what you’re into, I suppose.

Just, please, don’t tell me you like the White Stripes. Because if you do, I just might ban your IP. ;) jk… but talk about “little lyrical value”…
